Day 2

I Am Here with You
“And, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world” (Matthew 28:20).

A story was told of a soldier in the trenches of Europe in WWI. His sergeant ordered the squad forward.

Immediately, he obeyed, leaving one trench and running and jumping into a forward trench.

After catching his breath, he panicked, thinking he was alone in the trench.

Then through the darkness the voice of his sergeant who had also moved forward said, “I am here.”

The sound of that voice and the assurance that he was not alone calmed his fears.

When Jesus commanded His disciples to go and preach the gospel to all nations, He assured them that He was with them. He said, “And, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.”

Christians can be in the midst of hundreds of people but feel very alone.

They may even feel like they are in a battlefield surrounded by thousands of the enemy.

They need to hear the voice of their Lord, assuring them that He is there with them.

He goes with His disciples as they advance, witnessing of His saving grace.

He will never leave them nor forsake them. His presence calms and comforts the fearful and helps them to keep moving forward.

An old hymn says, “If Jesus goes with me, I’ll go anywhere.”

Remember: As you go each day into the world, know Christ is with you.

Prayer Request for Today: Pray a prayer of thanksgiving for Christ’s presence in your life.

“보라, 내가 세상의 끝까지 항상 너희와 함께 있느니라, 하시니라. 아멘.“ (마태복음 28:20b, KJV 흠정역)

제1차 세계대전 당시 유럽의 참호에 있던 한 군인의 이야기가 있습니다. 그의 하사와 소대가 전진 명령을 내렸습니다. 그는 즉시 순종하여 한 참호를 나와 달려가서 앞쪽에 있는 참호로 뛰어들었습니다.
숨을 가다듬은 후, 그는 자신이 참호 안에 혼자 있다고 생각해 패닉에 빠졌습니다.

그때 어둠을 뚫고, 마찬가지로 전진해 온 하사의 목소리가 들렸습니다. “내가 여기 있다.” 그 목소리와 혼자가 아니라는 확신은 그의 두려움을 가라앉혀 주었습니다.

예수님께서 제자들에게 가서 모든 민족에게 복음을 전파하라고 명령하셨을 때, 그분은 자신이 그들과 함께 있을 것임을 확증해 주셨습니다. 예수님은 “보라, 내가 세상의 끝까지 항상 너희와 함께 있으리라”고 말씀하셨습니다.

크리스천들은 수백 명의 사람들 한가운데 있으면서도 지독한 외로움을 느낄 수 있습니다. 심지어 수천 명의 적에게 둘러싸인 전쟁터에 있는 것처럼 느낄 수도 있습니다.

그들에게는 주님께서 그들과 함께 거기 계시다고 확신시켜 주시는 주님의 목소리를 들을 필요가 있습니다.

그분은 제자들이 전진하며 그분의 구원의 은혜를 증언할 때 그들과 함께 가십니다. 그분은 결코 그들을 떠나지 않으시고 버리지 않으실 것입니다.

그분의 임재는 두려워하는 자들을 가라앉히고 위로하며, 계속해서 앞으로 나아갈 수 있도록 도와줍니다.

옛 찬송가는 이렇게 말합니다. “예수님이 나와 함께 가신다면, 나는 어디든 가리.”

기억할 점: 매일 세상으로 나아갈 때, 그리스도께서 여러분과 함께 계심을 기억하십시오.

오늘의 기도 제목: 당신의 삶에 그리스도께서 함께 계심에 대해 감사 기도를 드리십시오. 아멘.
